Tahini, Tahana, let’s call the whole thing off

Kareem Mart of Garden City, MI, is recalling its 1lb, 2lb, 10kg of “Tahina” food treats because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

The recalled “Tahina” were distributed in Mediterranean food stores in Michigan and Chicago, IL. between April 2020 to October 2020.

Please do not consume the product and immediately dispose of the product or return to 32816 Manor Park Garden City MI 48135. Or to the place of purchase. And send us a note to the email: recalls@kareemmart.com with the return receipt and product purchase date for a full refund.

The product comes in 1lb, 2lb in plastic jars and the 10kg in metal can. There is only one lot distributed. With expiration date 07-01-2022.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing from samples in the stores by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Salmonella in tahina in Canada, no one sick (yet)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the Ayyam Zaman brand Extra Fine Tahina described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product, Ayyam Zaman brand Extra Fine Tahina, is sold in 400 g packages bearing UPC 6 217000 429807 and a code starting with "EXP 10/08".

This product is known to have been distributed in Ontario and may have been distributed in other provinces as well.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

As usual, no one knows how the Salmonella was magically discovered. 

Tahina (ground sesame seeds) may contain salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Phoenicia Products Inc. are warning the public not to consume the Alkanater brand Tahina described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product, Alkanater brand Tahina, is sold in 908 g containers bearing UPC 6 92551 00001 3 and codes "Prod.: 5/1/2011" and "Exp.: 5/1/2013". This product has been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
