Dunkin’ Donuts worker arrested after Illinois officer finds ‘mucus’ in coffee

A Dunkin’ Donuts worker has been arrested after an Illinois State Police officer discovered a “large, thick piece of mucus which was later confirmed to be saliva” in his coffee, authorities said.

The incident took place at 10:20 p.m. on July 30 when an Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago trooper purchased a large black coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts on Archer Avenue in Chicago, ABC News reported.

“Due to the coffee being extremely hot, the Trooper removed the lid from the top of the cup to cool it down,” the Illinois State Police said in a statement.

It was at that moment when the officer discovered the saliva floating in his cup.

The ISP immediately opened an investigation into the incident, which concluded with the arrest of Vincent J. Sessler, a 25-year-old Dunkin’ Donuts employee.

It was business as usual inside a Mendon Dunkin’ Donuts on Uxbridge Street, Massachusetts Thursday night, but former employees are speaking out about what was captured on video last November.

The employees said it shows what an employee did before the store opened that has them coming forward.

A video shows a tray of donuts accidentally spilled on the floor. The female manager picked them up, waited some time and then put them back onto the tray and into the case to be sold.

Liam, who didn’t want his last name used, said to the best of his knowledge the donuts were then sold to customers when the store opened.

He told NewsCenter 5’s Maria Stephanos that he was taken off the schedule after working there for three years. He admitted that when that happened he wasn’t happy so he came forward with the video, but he said the video speaks for itself.

“People are eating food that went to the ground, to the counter, and then putting it into their mouth,” Liam said. “That’s a problem.”

Two videos uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday show rats crawling around a New York City Dunkin’ Donuts location in the Garmnet District.

In the first video, uploaded by user ‘Pjayone’, a rat is seen making its way from the top of a display rack, touching croissants, bagels and other Dunkin' Donutsbaked goods in open tubs.

The second video shows yet another rat crawling up a window curtain at the same location on 37th Street and 8th Avenue.

In an email to Gothamist, the YouTube user explains that this is a normal occurrence  at the location.

‘At two-thirty [in the morning] every [day] the workers load the shelves with the morning’s wares. Shortly thereafter like clockwork the rats come out and party.’

‘My phone ran out of power, or I would’ve filmed the outright nine deep rat assault which followed the action above,’ he added.

‘The items in the video that are being besieged upon by the rats were to be sold for that mornings breakfast rush.’

The location captured in the video has an ‘A’ rating from the city’s health department, despite getting a citation for vermin-related issues in November 2013.

The citation called the facility ‘not vermin proof. Harboarge or conditions conductive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowed vermin to exist.’

When contacted by Gothamist, the location manager said simply: ‘We don’t have an issue like that.’

Dunkin’ Donuts’ corporate offices issued their own statement, saying ‘food safety is a top priority’.

‘We have stringent food safety and quality standards, and we take great pride in the food and beverages we serve to our guests every day.

I just wanted a Dunkin’ Donut and got Hepatitis A instead

The Westchester Health Department says some patrons of a New York doughnut shop may have been exposed to hepatitis A by an infected employee.

Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Archbald says customers may have been exposed if they had any iced drinks between March 28 and April 6 at a combined Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins shop on Washington Street in Peekskill.

A spokeswoman said the employee may have reached into the ice machine with bare hands while he was infected.

The county is offering free post-exposure treatment.

Get vaccinated before grabbing ice with poop on your hands.

Although it’s winter in New Zealand, back in North America it’s summer, and summer means flies. I distinctly remember eating dinner at my camp with sticky fly traps (pictured right) hanging above the dinner table, dead flies stuck to it, daring to drop onto my cob of corn.

Chicagobusiness.com reports that Dunkin’ Donuts on West Madison St. has had its food license suspended after a recent inspection reported a fruit fly infestation.

The Department of Public Health had cited the Dunkin’ Donuts on June 8 for the health code violation and gave the restaurant management a week to correct the problem. A follow-up inspection on Monday found “dozens of fruit flies” in the kitchen and dining area…

The location also was cited for a poorly maintained and overflowing garbage bin and gaps in its front door that were large enough to allow rodents and insects to enter the premises.

The restaurant will face a fine that could total $1,000 and will be required to appear at an administrative hearing on July 23.
