Spices strike again: UnjhaSpice brand cumin powder recalled in Canada due to Salmonella

UnjhaSpice Inc. is recalling UnjhaSpice brand Cumin Powder from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below.

What you should do

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have the recalled product in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Salmonella positive: Cumin and coriander powders recalled in Britain

Batches of cumin and coriander powders have been recalled from customers – because salmonella has been detected in the products.

MAIN-Cumin-and-Coriander-powders-recalled-due-to-presence-of-salmonellaThe recall concerns TRS Jeera Powder and TRS Dhania Powder manufactured by the TRS Wholesale Company Ltd.

The company will be displaying point-of-sale notices in all stores, which will tell consumers why the products are being recalled and will tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

No other TRS Wholesale Company Ltd products are known to be affected, according to the Food Standards Agency.

The products details are: TRS Jeera Powder, batch number P353340, 100g pack labelled best before December 31, 2017.

Also TRS Dhania Powder, batch number A481514, 100g pack labelled best before end of December, 2017.

The brand is also available throughout the European Union, Russia, Canada and the USA.

Spices with salmonella: Natco recalls ground cumin in UK

The UK Food Standards Agency reports that Natco Foods is recalling certain batches of its ground cumin because some are contaminated with salmonella.

The affected batches have a ‘best before’ date of September 2013 or October 2013. If you have bought the product don’t use it.

The product being recalled is:
Natco Ground Cumin, 100g jar, 100g pack, 400g pack, 1kg pack, 5kg pack
Best before: September 2013, October 2013

Natco has recalled the affected products from consumers and stockists. Customer notices have been displayed in stores, explaining why the product has been recalled.

If you have bought the affected product, don’t use it. You can return it to the store for a full refund.

No other Natco products are known to be affected.
