It’s good to ask food safety questions

“How do you know it was Campylobacter?”

“Because I specifically asked the doctors to test for it and it came back positive.”

Whenever I start chatting with someone and they find out what I do, they tell me about some food poisoning or barfing incident (which was how we ben.stool.sample.nov.09came up with barfblog) and yesterday was no different.

I ask them, how do you know it was food poisoning?

We were having tea at a street outing with the family of one of Sorenne’s friends, and the grandmother said her other daughter had suffered for years from the after-effects of Campylobacter.

She confirmed that tests had been done, at her request, and it was Campylobacter.

I said, I’m no medical doctor, and the older I get, the less I know, but it sounded like Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Amy got a note later in the day saying, “Mum went home and had a look about the condition Doug mentioned and she said it’s exactly right. So she’s very grateful for Doug mentioning it because now (her daughter) can mention it to doctors and maybe get some better treatment.”
