Home food preservation demonstration live stream: July 22, 1pm EDT

In my quest to become an even bigger canning nerd (in a good way), I’m joining forces with North Carolina Cooperative Extension agent Brenda Sutton (aka The Produce Lady) and broadcasting a live home food preservation demonstration. We’re all set to go at 1pm EDT on Friday July 22.

There will be tomato peeling; acidification using lemon juice; boiling water bathing and pressure canning.

And I’m guaranteed to have at least five goofy moments.

Tune in via the interwebs at www.ustream.tv.channel/the-produce-lady or access the live feed from The Produce Lady Facebook page. Viewers will be able to ask questions through an online chat box or you can tweet me at @benjaminchapman.

About Ben Chapman

Dr. Ben Chapman is a professor and food safety extension specialist at North Carolina State University. As a teenager, a Saturday afternoon viewing of the classic cable movie, Outbreak, sparked his interest in pathogens and public health. With the goal of less foodborne illness, his group designs, implements, and evaluates food safety strategies, messages, and media from farm-to-fork. Through reality-based research, Chapman investigates behaviors and creates interventions aimed at amateur and professional food handlers, managers, and organizational decision-makers; the gate keepers of safe food. Ben co-hosts a biweekly podcast called Food Safety Talk and tries to further engage folks online through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and, maybe not surprisingly, Pinterest.
